Professor Wijdan Abu Alhaija, President of Princess Sumaya University for Technology (PSUT), announced the launch of the 17th edition of Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW), organized by the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship at the university, in strategic partnership with Zain Innovation Campus (ZINC).
The activities are being held in a hybrid format—both in-person and virtually—and will continue until October 23.
Dr. Abu Alhaija emphasized that entrepreneurship is one of the key pillars of the university’s identity and academic mission, a direction that has been embedded since the establishment of the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship in 2004. The center serves as the university’s entrepreneurial arm, leading an integrated ecosystem to advance innovation and entrepreneurship in Jordan.
She added that since 2009, the center has been organizing and hosting Global Entrepreneurship Week activities, making it a national umbrella that brings together entrepreneurs in a major national and international event celebrating creativity and entrepreneurship. This effort is guided and continuously supported by Her Royal Highness Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan, President of the Royal Scientific Society and Chair of the PSUT Board of Trustees, whose vision inspires excellence, global reach, and alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
During the press conference held on campus, Dr. Abu Alhaija highlighted that PSUT adopts a comprehensive academic and strategic approach closely linked to applied innovation and labor market needs. The university works to instill a spirit of initiative among students and researchers by connecting them with national and global companies and institutions, fostering collaboration between the academic and economic sectors.
She noted that this approach is reinforced through applied curricula, innovative graduation projects, specialized competitions, mentorship programs, investor networks, and technical and research partnerships, enabling students to transform their ideas into startups. The university has also launched distinguished initiatives such as Venture Lab and the Entrepreneur in Residence Program, both aimed at enhancing innovation among students and faculty and encouraging them to develop their ideas into viable projects.
Meanwhile, Mohammad Obeidat, Director of the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship, stated that this year’s Global Entrepreneurship Week features 104 activities and events with the participation of local, international, governmental, and non-governmental entities, covering 59 cities across Jordan’s governorates.
He explained that this year’s themes focus on ecosystems, education, inclusion, and entrepreneurship policies, including lectures, workshops, discussion panels, networking opportunities, and platforms to expand professional relationships in the fields of entrepreneurship and innovation.
For his part, Tareq Bitar, Chief Communications, Innovation, and Sustainability Officer at Zain Jordan, expressed the company’s pride in its longstanding strategic partnership with the Queen Rania Center for Entrepreneurship at PSUT to launch Global Entrepreneurship Week.
He emphasized that this major global event, awaited annually by youth, entrepreneurs, and stakeholders worldwide, serves as a platform to discover new innovations and entrepreneurial ideas.
Bitar reaffirmed Zain’s commitment to supporting initiatives that foster a culture of innovation and strengthen Jordan’s entrepreneurship ecosystem, noting that ZINC will host a series of training sessions and workshops across its branches in different governorates throughout the week.
These sessions will cover key topics such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, entrepreneurship, user experience design, digital transformation, and personal and entrepreneurial branding—all aligned with market trends and the digital economy—to empower youth, develop their skills, and help transform their ideas into successful ventures.
