"Zain: Clear Footprints and Effective Steps towards Achieving Sustainable Development"

Amman, December 30, 2023: As part of its programs and initiatives in the field of sustainability management aimed at developing and solidifying concepts and practices, inspiring future generations to adopt them for reaching a green economy and building a sustainable future for the next generation, Zain Jordan continued its efforts throughout the year 2023 in this field through its sustainability management programs and initiatives, setting an exemplary model for the region.

Zain Jordan was among the pioneering companies in the region that placed significant emphasis on environmental protection and tackling the consequences of climate change. They deployed several practices serving the environmental sector, aiming to mitigate its impacts and taking measures to contribute to addressing the causes of pollution. The company signed a cooperation agreement with the Jordanian Electric Power Company (JEPCO) and electricity distribution companies (EDCO) to shift towards alternative energy sources using equipment and devices across its stations. This initiative aims to reduce carbon emissions by 90% to contribute to achieving zero carbon emissions. Additionally, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the Ministry of Environment to adopt sustainable solutions that contribute to addressing the issue of indiscriminate waste disposal and forest fires, which have become significant challenges to our ecosystem and its various components. This move aims to enhance the implementation of sustainable development goals, especially Goal 6 (Clean Water and Sanitation), Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production), and Goal 13 (Climate Action).

Continuing its efforts to address water challenges in the kingdom, Zain Jordan has, for the 17th consecutive year, supported the National Remote Water Quality Monitoring Project led by the Royal Scientific Society. This support includes providing data transmission lines and "Real Static IP" service to 13 stations covering various water bodies like the Yarmouk River, Jordan River, King Abdullah Canal, Zarqa River, entrance and exit of King Talal Dam, and exit of Kafrein Dam. Furthermore, the company signed a memorandum of understanding with the "Himmat W-Lemma" initiative - Towards a Cleaner Jordan, aiming to collaborate in raising public awareness about the importance of preserving the environment and cleanliness in public places, tourist sites, forests, and parks in the kingdom.

"Continuing its ongoing efforts to support Jordanian farmers, enhance environmental diversity, and ensure food security, Zain, in partnership with the Arab Society for the Protection of Nature, completed the planting of 1500 trees—comprising both deciduous and fruit-bearing varieties—in three farms located in the Ghawr Fifa area in the Al-Aghwar Al-Janoubiya region of Karak Governorate. Additionally, trees were planted in the environmental garden in the Ruseifa district of Zarqa Governorate, in Jerash Governorate, and in the capital, Amman (specifically in the Al-Jeeza area). This effort brings the total number of trees planted by the company to 14,500. Furthermore, Zain installed drip irrigation networks spanning 12,800 meters across three farms in the Ghawr Fifa area, contributing to preserving the ecosystem and achieving water security by raising awareness about improving irrigation practices.

With a significant focus on the healthcare sector in the kingdom, aiming to contribute to its development and achieving the third Sustainable Development Goal (Good Health and Well-being), Zain Jordan supported the comprehensive rehabilitation, development, and equipping of the Princess Basma Integrated Health Center in the Ras Al Ain area of Amman. This support, totaling 220,000 Dinars, was part of the company's collaboration with the 'Himmetna' initiative. Additionally, Zain continued its distinguished support for the Hussein Cancer Foundation and the 'Towards Life' campaign, assisting high school students receiving treatment at the center.

Zain's mobile free clinic for children continued to offer comprehensive free healthcare services through regular rounds and field visits to villages and less privileged areas in the kingdom, benefitting over 3,000 children this year. Since its inception in 2002, the clinic has served over 253,000 children.

Committing to supporting the education sector as a key pillar for community development and individual advancement, Zain Jordan renewed its strategic partnership agreement with the Vocational Training Corporation, a collaboration spanning 15 years. This renewal aims to fund the establishment and equipping of training centers across the corporation's branches, providing free training courses in specialties like electronic gaming devices maintenance, mobile device maintenance, and fiber optic network maintenance. This initiative aims to facilitate youths' entry into the job market, opening new avenues to secure new and sustainable jobs. The total number of graduates from the six centers spread across several governorates in the kingdom has exceeded 1,700 students.

Moreover, Zain renewed its agreement with the Queen Rania Award for Excellence in Education for the tenth consecutive year, maintaining its exclusive sponsorship from the telecommunications sector for the Queen Rania Award for Excellence in Education ceremony. In the same context, the company continued its support for the Orphan Care Fund for the twelfth consecutive year, contributing to providing a better future for orphaned youth after leaving care centers. Zain's support has benefited 70% of the total beneficiaries, reaching 168 individuals since 2011 until the end of 2022."

"Within its partnership with the 'Loyac' Foundation, Zain undertook the restoration and rehabilitation of the Al-Qastal Mixed Primary School in the Al-Jeeza district. This initiative marked the seventh school rehabilitated under this partnership. Additionally, for the sixth consecutive year, the company continued its support for the 'Banat Connect' program, teaching refugee and displaced women in the Jerash camp by providing free internet services. The number of women benefitting from Zain's support for the program has surpassed 2000.

Continuing its commitment to empowering youth by providing sustainable job opportunities, in partnership with the Ministries of Planning and International Cooperation, and Labor, Zain inaugurated a customer service call center at the Vocational Training Corporation in Madaba Governorate. Through this center, Zain provided 13 sustainable job opportunities to local youth, ensuring their social security coverage. This brings the total number of Zain call centers in the kingdom to 10, with eight established in Tafilah, Jerash, Ajloun, Ma'an, Al-Balqa, Madaba, in addition to the main center located at the company's headquarters in Amman. Two additional centers will be opened as part of this ongoing collaboration with the government.

With a focus on empowering women across various fields, Zain Jordan annually launches and supports exceptional programs and initiatives aimed at supporting and empowering women. For the third consecutive year, the company launched the 'Women in Tech' program targeting university students studying Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), aiming to enhance their technical and managerial skills, explore future career opportunities, and bridge the gender gap in technological fields. As of the end of 2023, the program has benefited 122 young women. Moreover, for four consecutive years, Zain conducted workshops through its innovation platform 'ZINC' in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) on 'Me and My Mobile,' targeting digitally underprivileged women in Amman and various governorates, contributing to digital literacy among girls and women, with over 115 women benefiting from these workshops until 2023.

In conjunction with International Women's Day, Zain Jordan, in collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) as part of their extended partnership, launched an awareness campaign called 'Safe Spaces' to empower women digitally. The campaign aimed to raise awareness about cyber-violence and methods to prevent it, ensuring digital rights and privacy for women in their online interactions.

In line with its policy of inclusion and diversity, emphasizing equal opportunities and aligning with the tenth goal of reducing inequalities, Zain introduced several initiatives to empower all members of society, overcoming barriers and facilitating their access. In a pioneering move, the company enabled mobile phone subscription contracts in sign language, becoming the first telecommunications company in the region to offer this service to subscribers with auditory and visual impairments."
