The company to support the Association's New Headquarters

Amman, March 6, 2008; Zain, part of the Zain group, the leading mobile telecommunications provider in the Middle East and Africa, signed an agreement with the Jordan Press Association (JPA) by which the company will sponsor the King Hussein Journalists Award of Excellence. The event is organized by the Association on yearly basis in commemoration to the memory of the Late King Hussein Bin Talal and aims to encourage creativity in journalistic writing. |
The company's effort to support this distinguished award is in line with its Corporate Social Responsibility activities and initiatives that focus on supporting the local community. This comes in parallel with its main role to develop the local telecommunications sector.
According to the agreement, Zain will offer prizes to the winning journalists totaling JD 1500 per winner, per category. Journalists will compete under five categories including best investigative report, best feature story, best news report, best published still photo journalism or caricature, and best TV/ radio news report or program.
The company will also support the Association's headquarters in Tla El Ali by equipping its training room and internet laboratory at the syndicate's new headquarters. Zian will provide computers, display screens as well as other equipment, in addition to the wireless internet service through the company's.
Attending the signing ceremony were Head of the Jordan Press Association Tareq El Momani and Vice President Nabeel Gheishan, along with members of the JPA board and representatives form the local press.
Zain CEO Saad Nasir stressed on the mutual respect between Zain and the local press, noting that the cooperation between Zain and the Association consolidates the relationship between both and forms a successful model of public-private sector collaboration.
Nasir added that Zain always seeks to support purposeful national initiatives and look to encourage creativity and excellence, both values that are in line with its company values. Nasir also stressed on the important role of the King Hussein Journalists Award of Excellence in encouraging successful work and contribute to the development of the media sector in the Kingdom, noting that the company seeks continuity of its cooperations in general and those with the association, in specific.
Zain's contribution is also in the form of supporting the Association's headquarters, stemming ffrom the company's belief in the importance of providing the right meeting place with the right environment that is in tune with the importance of the media industry. The association will be the venue for training and learning and the exchange of knowledge and expertise and the one umbrella for its members who exceed 770 member. It is also the meeting place of journalists and intellectuals visiting the Kingdom.
On the occasion, Al Momani stressed on the importance of the cooperation between the public and private sectors and the professional syndications and the role of the private sector in supporting the local communities and supporting the efforts that develop societies.
