Amman, February 27, 2008- Zain, part of the Zain Group, the leading mobile telecommunications provider in the Middle East and Africa, today donated a check worth JD31,878 to the King Hussein Cancer Foundation (KHCF) in support of the 'Towards Life' campaign to treat cancer patients. This campaign was launched by the Foundation in 2003. |
Zain's CEO, Saad Nasir, gave Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired, Director General of KHCF, a check representing all the donations of Zain's subscribers during the campaign of 2007.
The partnership between Zain and KHCF comprises a financial component of direct as well as indirect support towards the campaign. Last September, Zain donated JD 60,000 to the Foundation, adding up to a total of JD 270,000 donated by the company since the launch of the campaign.
Zain's indirect support to the campaign is in the form of a dedicated phone number (97070) in which subscribers can send an SMS and donate JD1 for each message. All these proceeds are collected and sent directly to the Foundation.
HRH Princess Dina Mired expressed her gratitude and appreciation for Zain's efforts, saying that Zain has been a real partner in the fight against cancer over the last five years. For the Foundation to be even more successful in the battle against cancer, HRH said she hopes other companies will follow in Zain's steps.
Her Royal Highness emphasized the necessity of continuing this partnership that is considered very important to the Foundation for it provides the required support to maintain high quality care for cancer patients— that of meeting all the physical, psychological, social, environmental, and spiritual needs of patients during treatment. Her Highness added that all the donations the Foundation receives through this campaign and others are spent in the right way, by supporting and helping the King Hussein Cancer Center (KHCC) and cancer patients that are treated at the Center. The campaign will continue during the upcoming years Inshallah, HRH added.
Nasir said: "Zain's commitment to support national campaigns, such as 'Towards Life' campaign that is launched annually by the King Hussein Cancer Foundation, represents the company's beliefs and social responsibility. Through this campaign, we are giving Jordanian citizens the opportunity to join a national effort in the fight against cancer; all the proceeds of this campaign are for humanitarian endeavors, helping in alleviating the pain of cancer patients of the Center and treating them."
He added that the health sector represents a significant part of Zain's interests as it focuses on the humanitarian aspect of the community, especially children, who represent the majority of the Kingdom's population.
Nasir expressed his deep gratitude to all subscribers who showed awareness about the campaign and its benefits, saying they have contributed extraordinarily and have helped promote social solidarity by donating JD1 with each SMS they send. He highlighted Zain's role in increasing awareness of the campaign among citizens; this through more than one million SMSs the company sent to announce the 2007 launch of the campaign and encouraging Jordanians to join and support cancer patients.
