Amman, March 5, 2008; Zain, part of the Zain Group, the leading mobile operator in the Middle East and Africa, is in the process of finalizing the connecting process of its various locations and sites through a state-of-the-art Fiber-Optic Network. Such a move aims to transform Zain's Transport Network infrastructure to the new "Next Generation Networks" (NGN). The move is part of Zain's forward thinking and plans to increase its network capacity as well its efforts to be well prepared for future evolution of the Telecommunications technologies
Zain's Strategic and Core Network Senior Manager Kais Qusous said: "this year will witness a remarkable development in Zain's Network in a way that would contribute to enhancing the Telecommunications industry in the Kingdom". "This will be achieved through the deployment of the Fiber-Optic Network which will pave the road to introduce the latest Transport Technologies and advanced Broadband services" he added.
Qusous noted that the Fiber-Optics Network deployed by Zain, covers all dense and commercial areas within the Greater Amman Municipality as well as the desert highway, all the way to the center of Aqaba. He added that the company invested around USD 17 million on the network so far, and will continue its plans to expand its Fiber-Optics Network to include other areas around the kingdom.
Qusous continued: "The Next Generation Network will offer flexibility in the provision and management of high capacities and Data-Throughputs in a way that would positively reflect on the quality and speeds of the services Zain is offering its customers, whether it was voice, data or internet". Accordingly, Zain chose Huawei Technologies, a world-leading telecom solutions provider, as its strategic partner in building its Transport Network. Said network will be of a great value for individual users as well as local and regional enterprises who will be benefiting of the different services (Voice, Data and internet) offered over Zain's infrastructure and the high speeds and best Traffic management practices. By having such an advanced Infrastructure, Zain will be in a position to adopt and deal with any new Technologies such as WiMax, 3G and IP-MPLS in a smooth manner.
Furthermore, the new investment made by Zain in its Transport Networks Infrastructure will help to further expand and enhance its International services and reach through creating direct connection with regional countries as well as strategic international destinations. Zain will also enrich its Telecom-Product-Portfolio through launching a set of Wholesale services which will address the requirements of other local as well as regional telecom and none telecom parties
To date, Zain invested around JD 181 million between 2003-2007 to develop its network in such a way that would conform to the highest standards of quality and performance. Said investment aims to increase the network's capacity and enhance its standard of quality.
It is worth mentioning that the company owns more than 1430 sites that cover over 99.9% of the populated areas in Jordan. Furthermore, other industrial and agricultural areas or even temporary projects are served by Zain through a set of special solutions starting with repeaters and ending up with a complete Mobile Station.
