Amman, May 6, 2008; The Zain group, the leading mobile telecommunications operator in the Middle East and Africa, announced the appointment of Dr. Ahmad Al Shatti as the new General Manager of Zain in Jordan. Dr. Al Shatti, who assumes his new role today, replaces Eng. Saad Nasir who had assumed the role for the past two years and is now moving on to a new role within the Zain Group’s Middle East office.
On the occasion, Dr. Al Shatti commented “I am very happy to be working in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and be part of a telecommunications market considered as one of the most advanced in |
the region. I shall undoubtedly draw inspiration from the rich field of expertise that my colleague Saad Nasir is leaving behind. I look forward to working closely with an extremely talented team that has an exceptional track record earning a reputation for being innovative leaders in the regional telecom industry and placing Jordan high up on the world telecom map.” . Al Shatti added that he plans to build on the successes achieved to date by Zain in Jordan aiming to maintain the company’s leading position within the local market noting “that the company will maintain its efforts and future plans directed towards serving its customers as well as supporting the local community and becoming a main pillar of local development.”
Dr. Al Shatti comes to Jordan very well equipped having spent the previous 20 months as Chief Operating Officer of Zain in Bahrain, an operation that is Zain Group’s pilot for new mobile technologies which has earned the accolades of regional telecom industry for being the first in the world to launch and offer nationwide 3G, 3.5G and WIMAX services. He joined the Zain Group in 2004 as the Chief Human Resources Officer.
Additionally, Dr Al Shatti sat on many committees within the oil industry including heading the Petroleum Sector Team in a workforce restructuring programme in 1998 in Kuwait. He is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Middle East HR Forum (The American University of Beirut) and the Society of HR Management (US) as well as belonging to several academic associations including holding a seat as Board Member in the Graduate School of Kuwait University.
Dr Al Shatti holds a PhD in Strategic Management from the University of Bradford, UK, an MBA from the University of Glasgow (UK) and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from the Worcester, Massachusetts, USA.
Zain Group CEO Dr. Saad Al Barrak praised Saad Nasir’s efforts and the vital role he played at Zain in Jordan where he oversaw the successful rebranding process of the company from its original name 'Fastlink' to Zain. The company also maintained its leadership in the Jordanian market and received various awards, including the Research in Motion's (RIM) International Award of Excellence for being the first to introduce the BlackBerry service, successfully, in Jordan. The Award is the first of its kind to be received by a telecommunications company in Jordan.
